My medicine posting duies went like this:

peripherals for 15 days:

nephrology for 5 days

icu for 5 days

ward for 5 days

and unit duty for 1 month then last psychiatry 


NEPHROLOGY DUTIES

I was placed in Nephrology for the first five days.

In nephrology, i was expected to take care of the inpatients and regular patients coming for hemodialysis.

During dialysis sessions, I was able to monitor   patients ,if in case if they come across high BP i used to inform PG and used give proper medications to control high BP and  learned about the complications that patients could have during the session. Learnt about management of hypertension in CKD patients


Also learned how the dialysis equipment works and how it would benefit or affect the patient when he is on hemodialysis


ICU DUTIES

    The ICU duty only lasted for a 5 days of duration it gave me opportunity to learn many clinical skills. 

When I was posted in the ICU

I have seen how to intubate the patient and learned how to monitor infusion pump and how to adjust the drug dosage according to patient vitals in a intubated patient

checking GRBS and helped in bed sore dressing

 I learned how to draw ABG samples

how to insert a foleys catheter, how to place the ryles tube and I also how to insert I.V canula



WARD DUTIES 

I was posted in the ward for the last 5 days 

during ward duties I uesd to see different cases and learned how to do general examination and how to check reflexes in a patient

I used allot some cases to BDS students and helped them to take history regarding the case

Also I used to take everday's fresh complaints of ICU patients,ward patients and if any abnormal complaint is there means I used to inform the PG and get them treated

I have seen lumbar spondolysis,migraine and osteoarthritis and sjogrens syndrome cases also

Also encouraged cointerns to update their blogs and the helped them creating pajr groups




UNIT DUTIES

My next 4 weeks were of unit duty and I was placed under 4th unit under the guidance of Dr. sushmitha ma'am, Dr. Charan sir, Dr.Raveen sir Dr. Haripriya ma'am, Dr.Govardini ma'am

During unit duty, I used to see a lot of different different and interesting cases and  attended all OPD days in my unit.i used learn how  patient present to OPD with complaints and learned how to diagnose the case if the patient comes with particular complaints and I learned how to treat the case and understanding the treatment regimen

In that In that time period I have learnt many things like approach to patient,taking history,examining the patient and ruling out differential diagnosis based on our examination and as well as the investigations.


In our OP day we use to check the vitals of the patient,taking the history,writing the investigation requisitions that are related to the patients problem.


I also examined patients for rhombergs sign,postural hypotension and also reflexes


I used to monitor my unit cases and I used to actively participate in updating Pajr group,daily soap notes regarding my unit cases and fever chart
